Destinos Al Aire 2022
October 2022, for the 3rd “Destinos al Aire” CLATA explored a new partnership with LUMA8 for the 8th annual, Arts in the Dark parade. This annual parade celebrates Halloween as the “artist’s holiday” and draws together world-renowned institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago and Joffrey Ballet, and cultural and community performance groups, bringing performance and creativity to downtown Chicago. This year, the parade attracted over 50,000 spectators. CLATA led the parade with a Day of the Dead themed altar dedicated to CLATA’s late co-founder and Executive Director Myrna Salazar, constructed and showcased by indigenous artisans. This tribute was followed by a celebratory spectacle to honor her life and legacy with colorful Puerto Rican carnival style musicians, a Vejigante dancer and La Vuelta stilt walking and juggling performances. This was CLATA’s second collaboration with the up and coming La Vuelta Ensemble, a circus and theater company from Puerto Rico and now based in Chicago whose mission is to elevate circus and physical theater.
